Nuno Silas (Maputo, 1988), an interdisciplinary visual artist and curator, lives between Germany, Mozambique and Portugal.

Nuno Silas (Maputo, 1988), an interdisciplinary visual artist and curator, lives between Germany, Mozambique and Portugal. His practice encompasses performance, curating, artistic and academic research, reflecting on Mozambican identity and African cultural heritage with intersections between art, politics, technology and post-memory. Nuno Silas is a PhD candidate in History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Évora (Institute of Contemporary History) and the University of Leipzig in Germany. His photographs, performances and large-scale sculptures are informed by personal and collective narratives, as well as elements that synthesise the cultural dynamics of the present time. He is the curator of the exhibition: Black Skin, White Masks: The Black Body in Presence (Galerias Municipais de Lisboa, 2023); he was part of the research projects ‘Black Atlantic Revisited’ - African and South American UNESCO - World Heritage Sites and ‘Shadowed Spaces’ of Performative Memory (University of Bayreuth, Germany, 2019-23); Multiple Artworks - Multiple Indian Ocean (Natural Museum Berlin, Humboldt Forum Berlin). Nuno Silas has a degree in Fine Arts from the School of Arts and Design (Caldas da Rainha), was awarded a scholarship in 2018 from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation for a master's degree in African Verbal and Visual Arts, Media and Curatorial Studies, and was selected for the Zeitz Mocaa University Of The Western Cape (Uwc) Museum Fellowship.
